TRANSFORMATION OF AGRICULTURAL BUILDINGS INTO EXCEPTIONAL RESIDENCE OF 1000 M² IN DEAUVILLE

On arrival at the scene Bérengère Leroy discovered a group of agricultural buildings in very poor condition, covered with sheet metal and mechanical tiles in the middle of agricultural land with a superb 180° view of the Deauville countryside.

The owner of the premises had recently acquired this 30 hectare territory located on a small hill overlooking several prestigious stud farms and which was originally the agricultural part of the neighboring stud farm.

The owner's wish was to enhance his exceptional site by creating a prestigious residence but the task was difficult given the state of the buildings and their unsightly appearance; but they were there and that was the main thing for obvious reasons of constructability.

Bérengère Leroy therefore designed a project suited to the place and its owner.

In the region of Deauville, 8 decorative elements are essential for a successful restoration:

  • the roofs
  • half-timbering or half-timbering
  • cut stones
  • the bricks
  • the beam
  • sitting dogs
  • the chimneys
  • interior floor coverings

Faced with the difficulty of finding enough old materials for this almost complete construction, Bérengère Leroy had the owner buy back an old press on uninteresting land about twenty kilometers away and whose timber frames, bricks, beams and cut stones were in good condition.

This press was completely dismantled by a team of companions, and these numbered elements allowed the reconstruction of the whole. A bread oven suffered the same fate and was integrated into all the buildings.

80 old salvaged tiles were used to cover the roofs.

The wooden sections of the press and the sections of reclaimed wood whose color was already grayed by time were recut on site into deliberately uneven shapes and reworked according to the rules of the art.

The dog seats were carved from old, already gray oak.

Appliances of cut stone and pink-colored bricks from Pays d'Auge were installed for both an exterior gable and certain chimneys, in the style of the old manor houses of Pays d'Auge.

7 chimneys, all different in the spirit of the country of trough, including one 6 meters wide, were cut on site with reclaimed bricks and cut stones.

The interior floors were laid in gray oak parquet and reclaimed tiles from the 18th century.

And to finish the work Bérengère Leroy had small paths made of old cobblestones connecting the buildings and a superb terrace of old cobblestones all along the main building with a breathtaking view.

This is how, after 2 years of work and tons of salvaged materials transported to this small hill, this group of agricultural buildings with an unattractive aesthetic became one of the most sumptuous character properties on the outskirts of Deauville and no one can imagine that it is an almost complete reconstruction.
